Misconceptions
#1 The City/Country (AHJ) will inspect my project, I'll be okay.
#2 I have a great contractor, I've used him before (or ... he came very highly recommended), so I won't need any help.
#3 As a contractor of 30 years, I rely on my trade contractors to know what they are doing, but we always fail inspections.
#4 I'm buying a brand new townhouse built by a well known builder. They have so many resources like inspections, quality control managers, and a really nice sales team. I don't need the additional eyes checking their work because they are looking out for me.
- City/Country inspectors don't inspect for Quality.
- Most inspectors inspect for less than 30% of the required minimum codes.
- Many city/country inspectors lack proper credentials or experience to inspect your project, yet they are still employed to do so. In some local jurisdictions, the inspector has no ICC certifications or only one such as Property Maintenance.
- City/Country inspectors can't help you resolve issues or make suggestions.
#2 I have a great contractor, I've used him before (or ... he came very highly recommended), so I won't need any help.
- While there are many great architects and contractors out there, not all projects and contractors are created equally. Even the best professionals need help every now and then, especially with the ever changing construction codes in the various jurisdictions. I can't tell you how many times I've been told the same story where the contractor or architect came highly recommended but then botched a project. It happens.
- No matter how many projects someone does for everyone before, "this is your baby."
- We don't bash contractors, architects, owners, or inspectors... we bring the team together for everyone's benefit.
#3 As a contractor of 30 years, I rely on my trade contractors to know what they are doing, but we always fail inspections.
- We understand the difficulties and that you can't be everywhere at the same time, but you can't rely on others to be as good as you. When it come to your work and reputation, you are only as good as your weakest link.
- Common Contractor Comments
- "Contracting is like babysitting!"
- "He said that wasn't required, now I have to wait for a re-inspection."
- "Well, he said he was ready for inspection."
- "We never have to do that in (the other place)."
- "Well...can I just send you a picture?"
- and "Why do I have to do that, you're killing me?"
- Common Contractor Comments
- If the bigger contractors have in-house quality control and consulting staff, shouldn't you?
- While you can use our service as a marketing tool, the best benefits will come from money saved...
- reduce and eliminate failed inspections
- reduce costly mistakes and rework
- reduce cost with resources to quickly resolve issues
#4 I'm buying a brand new townhouse built by a well known builder. They have so many resources like inspections, quality control managers, and a really nice sales team. I don't need the additional eyes checking their work because they are looking out for me.
- Only you can truly look out for your best interest, not someone selling you a very big purchase. Everyone is loyal to the company that writes their check, not the person they're smiling at. The builder's staff are not unbiased.
- With their mega staffs and resources, big home builders may build the same product repeatedly, yet they don't pass inspections repeatedly.
- Mega builders are notorious for cutting quality to control their budget. If those items are missed, then it could cost you in the long run.
